Is the Back40 ready to work out of the box?

It's a USB analog-to-digital conversion kit. You need an Android device (tablet or phone) to connect to the box and use as the display and logger via the app. You'll also need sensors for what you want to measure (temperature, pressure, RPM), and we sell those if you don't already have them on the tractor. Complete kits are available with tablets pre-loaded with the latest EZ Dash 3.0 app.

Who is the Back40 built for?

Tractor pullers who have never had a data logger before, or pullers frustrated with their current system who want something simpler to use and operate.

How many parameters does it display and log?

Every system reads DC system voltage, and ground speed comes from your tablet's GPS. Past that it depends on the generation: Gen3 gives you 6 analog inputs, 2 tach/RPM inputs, and 8 temperature inputs. Gen4 gives you 8 analog, 6 tach/RPM, 8 temperature, and 4 relay outputs. One pressure channel can alternatively be used as an NTC temperature input for air or coolant temps. EGTs run through a thermocouple amplifier.

What do customers normally monitor?

In addition to system voltage, MPH (via GPS), and engine RPM, the remaining channels are commonly used for fuel pressure, oil pressure, water injection pressure, boost pressure, a single EGT, and coolant temperature, or exhaust manifold pressure.

Why USB instead of Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is for devices separated by distance. Since all Back40 components are mounted on the vehicle, there's no need for the extra expense and uncertainty of Bluetooth.

Which tablet should I use?

Any Android device works. Samsung tablets offer a quality display at a good price, and include a GPS chip for ground speed. Most common sizes are 8"–10.5", costing $100–$250.

Is there an iPad / iOS app?

No. EZ Dash 3.0 is Android-only.

How do I mount my tablet?

RAM Mounts are a popular choice. Back40 also sells tablet holders and ball-mount systems. See the Mounts & Accessories category in the shop.
